History

Montessori Center of Dayton (MSD) was originally founded as a non-profit Montessori School in 1964 offering a true Montessori education to children between three and nine years old (pre-K through 3rd grade). Originally known as Montessori School of South Dayton (MCSD), the school began in rented space in the Horace Mann School. As the school continued to grow, space was rented from the United Church of Christ on Bigger Road in Kettering. In 1988 the school again was growing and we eventually moved to our current location at 2900 Acosta Street which was the former Kettering Rolling Fields School.

In 2008, the school made the decision to purchase the building with the intention of further expanding the curriculum to serve students from the toddler years (18 months) through the eighth grade. Through the purchase of the building, MSD has been able to expand and modernize the classrooms, refurbish the gymnasium and school stage, and add to the extracurricular activities including piano, art, foreign languages (French and Spanish), band, choir, theater arts and will soon add sporting activities.
